Careers In Which You Wield The Accountability Gavel

Every single modern civilization has five systems that are intertwined with each that make everything work. Everything in your life is affected by these systems, but it’s an easy guess that you probably don’t ever think about them. The first three things are from which all else emanates. The pillars that give us the life of freedom we crave are freedom of thought, freedom of expression and freedom of speech. This purely Western philosophy has grown so large that most countries around the entire world have adopted them as the gold standard.

These beliefs and concepts are purely just thoughts and ideas until they have the next two concepts physically enforced. Law and order are the two concepts that provide the other three concepts the oxygen they need to live and spread. Those who believe in law and order must also speak truth to power. Wherever there is a coagulation of powers, they must be accountability of those who wield them. There are careers in many fields that have specialist occupations that do exactly that.

Board Representative

Governments cannot get everything they are assigned to do by the people by themselves. The government would be simply too large, and there would be so much to do and so few people to oversee and properly manage everything that the system would collapse very quickly. Instead what happens is, elected officials and executives of power employ the services of charities, non-profit organizations and professional bodies such as businesses wherever they’re needed. The party in power will then use such entities to implement certain types of policies they promised in their manifesto. The task of implementing them will then go to those entities. What a board representative does is answer back to those who sit in power. Together with the other board members, the representative will compile reports that go into great detail about the successes and failures of government policy. In the purest form, you are the canary in the coal mine. What works and helps people, improves their lives and makes society an overall better place is what you relay back to people in power. Things that fail miserably and do more harm than good is also part and parcel of giving back the hard-hitting truth.

Corruption Cop

Police corruption is a substantial form of misconduct. Although the executive and government institutions are where the laws are created and signed into law, police forces are at the sharp end of implementing them. There is no barrier between the people and the police. It’s the responsibility of the police to treat citizens fairly and above all else protect their rights and is need be stop those who are taking the liberty and rights away from other people. Courses that allow students to study police corruption like an online BA in policing gives those interested in this form of law enforcement an in-depth gander. Learning about what ethics are and why they’re paramount will open your eyes to how fragile or strong social cohesion can be.

Although you may not be on the absolute front line of providing care and due diligence to law and order, both these career options speak truth to power and hold those with powers far above our heads accountable to the decisions they make.

Interesting article. Have been asked to apply as a school governor for my youngest child’s school. It’s funny, but its only since hearing about the role have I started to take an interest in what various members of the board do.

Cecilia, I was a school Governor for over ten years before retiring. I did not know what the board did at the time, but I was passionate and determined to be a voice for the parents. You will do fine if you follow your parenting instinct.
